Credit Secrets Worth Knowing

It seems as though everyone in today’s society is trying to fix their damaged credit and trying desperately to figure out the key to solving bad debt.

But are there really any credit secrets or tips which can help?

When trying to improve your credit score it is vital to understand which actions cause the most damage. It is also important to learn and become familiar with the terms used by creditors, and to be able to recognize the difference between a legitimate issue and a coy intimidation tactic.

There are no real credit secrets, but having a solid understanding of what could damage your score and what may not is essential. If you are struggling to both understand and improve your current credit, you may want to consider the following;

If a creditor warns that your payment has been reported as “currently 30 days late” you may want to make your payment as soon as possible, or take action to arrange an alternative payment plan. Though 30 days late will not have major consequences with your credit report, it can become an issue when reported too frequently. This is also true for reports of “currently 60 days late” as well.

The real damage is done when a creditor reports a payment as “currently 90 days late”. Letting a payment slide for 90 days can result in lasting damage to your credit score, and the results can remain on your record for a minimum of seven years.

After 120 days, the entire balance is usually sold off to a third party. When this happens you will no longer deal with your individual creditor but a collections agency.

The collections agency may also be an internal collections department within your creditor’s company. However, the issues are treated separately and you will be approached to pay your balance in its entirety. When these situations are reported to the credit bureau your score can fall drastically.

The only real credit secrets available are to pay more than your minimum payment, and to be aware of any impending due dates. When these two pieces of credit advice are taken seriously, credit secrets or no credit secrets, your score will improve and remain in good condition.
